Members of DK’s management team have designed and managed security for all four federal court sites within the Western District of Michigan in their former careers as United States Marshals. DK's owner, Mr. John Kendall, was appointed to three terms as U.S. Marshal for the western district of Michigan in 1980-92. Mr. Steve Pekrul, who recently joined the DK team, was also employed by the U.S. Marshal Service from 1982-04 as a Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal. Principal functions of the U.S. Marshals Service include protecting federal judges, jurors and other members of the federal judiciary and ensuring the safe conduct of judicial proceedings. The Marshals Service protects more than 2,000 sitting judges as well as other court officials at more than 400 court facilities throughout the nation. Mr. Kendall and Mr. Pekrul's experience in court security design and management is truly unique and unmatched in the private, contracted security industry.
DK's Courthouse Security Audit and Services (District, Circuit and Probate Courts)
In an effort to continue to serve our Michigan court system and advocate for the security needs of our Michigan judges, we would like to offer the opportunity for your court to work personally with former U.S. Marshals in assessing your levels of risk and security needs. A critical phase often overlooked when courts implement security systems is the initial assessment of the levels of risk and threat for the courthouse and judges.
We will conduct a court security audit of not only your facilities and policies but an evaluation of your personal security risks. This audit will provide you with recommendations and a security enhancement plan that can be woven into future budget planning in cooperation with your funding provider. DK’s court security audit is modeled on the “best practices” developed by the U.S. Marshals Service and other court security providers.
Throughout the past several years, DK staff has designed security systems for courts in Michigan as a contracted security provider and provided training for court staff, developed court security guidelines, provided staffing and successfully presented recommendations to county commissions for their support and approval.
If you would like to speak personally with Mr. John Kendall or Mr. Steve Pekrul regarding the process of court security audits and have questions that may assist your efforts in increasing the security at your courthouse, please contact our office at 800-535-0646. |
